anouka started a year ago with her first sets on soundcloud and the response was incredible, building her fan base consistently. her debut ep traveller is released on soso, the label that she runs together with zusammenklang and oliver schories. the ep reflects what anouka always tries to express in her sets: showing that melancholy and happiness are very close together and they can work harmoniously. she recorded the vocals for both tracks by herself, which was challenging yet very rewarding. frequent traveller kicks things off nicely with its melancholic moodiness shining through as we meander effortlessly through berlin inspired melodies, while the sultry vocal sits wonderfully on top adding an extra layer of depth. christopher schwarzwalder is on remix duties, and from the off creates tension as this atmospheric rework subtly growls as it grooves. its sparseness is the key here, as this restrained gem works its magic. liberty is next as it tinkles away, creating a warm glow, and its caressed with its spoken french vocal, creating an air of sophistication. and rounding things off nicely is the midas 104 remix. this mystical touch up takes the energy levels up a notch, but increases the melancholy further and adding an air of just the right amount of wonkiness and quirkiness.

following last years meditative mirage ep and the stunning * beat 13* on lovers rock no. 6, earthen sea returns to lr with his debut lp ink. his heaviest and most ambitious work to date, ink is a work of hypnotic, monastic beauty. over the last ten years, earthen sea, aka jacob long, has been developing a sound world all his own, built on a foundation of vaporous grey-black drones and pulsing kick drums. an impressionistic dream-scape of american life, ink journeys between the eerily vacant “entrance” to the feverish “stateless” and the shimmering perfection of “all men know the truth.” swaths of violent, glacial noise collide with lost voices transmitted through the ether, framed between moments of transcendent clarity. following an extended three song suite, closing track * blues in black ink* rides a gently falling piano melody into a finale that is as infused with political rage as it is with private melancholy. with ink, earthen sea arrives fully formed, an artist in utter command of his craft.

through the spirit realm is refracteds first lp to date, and it comes canadas excellent silent season, a home to rasmus hedlund, quantec, and asc, among others. enter the jungle quickly gives a picture of what s to come thanks to the track s abstract blend of animal sounds, a myriad of noises which is swallowed up the warm and dubby swings of the jungle is thick, a donato dozzy kinda lick. the whole lp follows a similar string of thought, one that binds stripped back techno together with deep ambience and slow moving plates of drone, the ritual begins is simply hypnotic and we could keep it on for hours on loop. its tribalism at its most cutting-edge, and an altogether fantastic debut performance from this growing techno personality.

moresounds has left the training camp and is now at the controls of his own craft. a dub fanatic, he stays true to the techniques of king tubby, and from behind his desk sends dancefloors crazy with pinches of hip-hop and jungle in his authentic and energetic live show. this approach caught the attention of om units cosmic bridge label in 2012 before his debut ep on astrophonica in 2013. since then his music has appeared on doc scotts 31 recordings and has added trademark cosmic dub seasoning to machinedrums vapor city project. an impressive start to his career, echoed in fact magazines inclusion of the producer as one to watch in 2015.
